EDTA Chelation

Heavy metal detoxification, in stages.

A chelating agent is administered which binds to heavy metals in the body so they can be eliminated through urine. It runs over a few weeks, with testing at both ends.

What it is

Chelation, in plain terms.

Chelation therapy involves administering a chelating agent that binds to heavy metals in the body, so they can be eliminated through urine. EDTA is a common chelating agent, and it forms stable bonds with metals including lead, mercury, arsenic and aluminium.

Where exposure comes from

Heavy metals accumulate quietly.

Most exposure is not dramatic. It builds up through ordinary contact over a long period, which is why testing tells you more than guessing does.

  • Food and water

Contaminated food and drinking water are among the most common routes of exposure.

  • Environmental pollutants

Airborne and soil contamination, particularly in industrial and high traffic areas.

  • Occupational hazards

Trades and industries that work with metals, batteries, paints, solder or older building materials.

  • Everyday products

Some cosmetics and some cookware can contribute to accumulated exposure over time.

Symptoms of heavy metal toxicity

What toxicity can look like.

Heavy metal toxicity can present in a number of ways. Not one of these is specific to heavy metals on its own, which is exactly why the process starts with a test rather than with a symptom checklist.

  • Gastrointestinal and kidney dysfunction
  • Nervous system disorders
  • Skin lesions
  • Vascular damage
  • Immune system dysfunction
  • Birth defects

Prolonged exposure to heavy metals can also increase the risk of certain cancers. If any of this is a concern for you, raise it at the free phone consultation and we will work out whether testing is worth doing.

How it works

Bind, filter, excrete.

Once EDTA is in the bloodstream it circulates and binds to heavy metals present in the blood. That binding forms stable complexes, which are filtered by the kidneys and excreted in urine.

Benefits

What chelation is said to do.

  • Heavy metal detoxification

EDTA chelation therapy removes accumulated heavy metals from the body, reducing the risk of toxicity related health issues.

  • Cardiovascular health

Some studies suggest that chelation therapy may improve blood flow and circulation, potentially reducing the risk of cardiovascular events.

  • Antioxidant properties

EDTA and certain chelating agents possess antioxidant properties, helping combat oxidative stress and inflammation, which are underlying factors in various chronic diseases.

  • Neurological support

Chelation therapy shows promise in managing neurodegenerative conditions by reducing the toxic burden on the brain and nervous system.

Chelation is not suitable for everyone and outcomes differ from person to person. Whether it is appropriate for you is worked out at your free phone consultation, against your own history, not from this page.

The process

Five steps, over a few weeks.

The testing kit has to arrive before the infusion can be booked, which is why this runs in two stages rather than one appointment.

  1. Step 1: Book in

You book online and pay the standard $100 deposit. We order your heavy metal testing kit, which takes about a week to arrive.

  2. Step 2: We call to book your infusion

Once the kit arrives we call to schedule the infusion. Choose a day you can rest afterwards, because you will feel quite fatigued.

  3. Step 3: The infusion

Come well hydrated and after a meal. We start with a glutathione push, then administer EDTA with vitamin C and magnesium.

  4. Step 4: Testing

You go home with a urine testing kit and written instructions. The sample is taken 3 hours after the infusion finishes and goes back in the prepaid express envelope.

  5. Step 5: Results and next steps

Results usually come back in about 5 to 10 business days. We then talk them through with you and plan what happens next.

What is in the infusion

Four components, and why each is there.

  • Glutathione 1000 mg

Given first, as a push, to support detoxification of the bound heavy metals.

  • EDTA

The chelating agent. It binds heavy metals so they can be excreted.

  • Vitamin C 5000 mg

    Included for its antioxidative properties.

  • Magnesium sulphate 2500 mg

Included to help with the muscle spasms and pain that are common with EDTA. We would rather tell you about that up front than have it surprise you.
